Our bodies are fragile things, and yet they are our souls' only home on this earth. Prophesy gives meaning to our small selves and makes us part of something greater. Just as the slave belongs to its master, so too do both belong to God.
Many cultures have myths of the end times, when our souls will be evaluated and given either the reward or the punishment they deserve.
Having lived through several dates on which the world had been predicted to end (especially "Y2K" and Dec 21, 2012), I began my own obsession with the Apocalypse in 2013. The US Supreme Court had just overturned the Defense of Marriage Act, and gay sexuality suddenly seemed almost mainstream. The world was changing incredibly quickly, and I felt a sense that the world as we knew it was about to end. Little did I know....
Over the next few years, I took different pieces of the Biblical Book of Revelation and adapted them into a series of performances. My intent has never been to mock or devalue religion, but on the contrary to find real truth in these stories that motivate so many people to this day. If I knew then what I know now, I might have been less eager to joke about bringing about the Apocalypse. The terrifying thing about prophesy is that sometimes it comes true....
While John the Divine was exiled on the island of Patmos, he had a vision of an Angel who showed him the things that would come to pass at the end of the world.
